MITCHELL — Dolores A. Bales, 83, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born November 7, 1930, in Bedford, she was the daughter of William and Hattie (Williams) Briscoe. She married Charles Nelson Bales January 15, 1950, and he preceded her in death May 29, 1991.
She had been director of Hoosier Uplands Head Start and also served on the Hoosier Uplands board. Dolores had served as treasurer of Mitchell Senior Citizens, and was a member of the West Baden Springs Historical Society, Dunn Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was also a Happy Traveler. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1949, was a member of the First Christian Church in Mitchell and attended the Saltillo Christian Church.

Her parents; husband; and siblings, Marie Baker, Raymond Briscoe, Bernard Briscoe, Alverta Todd, Mildred Meyers, and Maxine Briscoe, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 2, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Josh Brumfield officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, and from noon until the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
